Ain't flashbacks fun?
It was the bottom one!!! LMAO! That is too great!
I just had an odd memory pop into my head. I just vaugly remember a couple that lived up the road from us when i was small (before school age.
We called them Miss Pearl and Uncle Joe (but he wasn't). I don't know what made me think of this but I remember some evenings they would walk down the road and sitt with my folks out under the big Locust tree in our front yard and Miss Pearl would bring popcorn balls wrapped in a dish towel, and my mom would pour everyone a big glass of iced tea and we would sit and eat them as the lightin' bugs flew around us
NOw that is a beautiful memory Rog!!!
Gee I used to make great popcorn balls...i haven't made those in years!!! Wanna know what I remember???http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/scan0002.jpg

I Remember when it was decided that the town I used to live in was gonna get a radio station, It was about 1964.
It was located on what we refered to as Doc Mitchels hill, West of Mcleansboro. It was given the call letters WMCL-AM 1060 on your radio dial. It was cool to hear local news that was really local and they played Country music so it was played in our house a lot. I could never understand why it was only given a license to broadcast from 6:00am to 6:00pm
don't even get me started on radio shows...I listened to "intersanctum" ( I think that is how you spell it)...it started out with a squeeking door. We were riveted to the radio. Amos and Andy...wow...you had to use your imagination back then.
I remember the View Master too.
I am sure the viewer and slides are still kicking around my parents place. I would spend lots of enjoyable moments looking at the neat photos!!
Like I said before, I'm just a big ol' kid, I'd love to have some of those old toys now, that I had then, The view master, GI Joes, Johhny West, tinker toys, etch a sketch, and so many more that I can't think of now.
Ahhhh Flashbacks
I remember how scarey the principal of our school was.....and the first day of school (grade school)...all the halls smelled like pencils and floor wax
Rog,
Didcha have a daisy Red Rider BB gun and a Radio Flyer wagon?
LOL...Yes Sis I had a Red Flyer Wagon, it was used, but I loved my wagon. I use to hire it out for dimes & nickles hauling dirt & rocks when my stepdad was building our House.
I didn't get a BB gun until I was much older, long after the Red Ryder days. I liked those single action BB guns much better than the newer Pump guns...
Awww Thanks for the memories
I remember when half dollars were as common as quarters....
tinker toys & lincoln logs used to occupy me for hours on end.
still do from what I hear
Yeah I loved my wagon too, that and my purple bike with the banana seat that I only had for 1 week before somebody stole it...I was 8 and my parents we pissed SOOOO the next bike I got, I BOUGHT!!!
I wish they had Big Wheels for adults!!!
spoken like a true smart ass!
I remember my first bike too. It was a used Schwinn 26, inch wheels, I was barely able to put my feet on the ground with out hurting myself *winks*.
I was so proud of that thing I went to the local Western Auto store and bought a can of silver spray paint, and gave it several coats. I traded a buddy of mine for the pullback handle bars, and I...er...kinda...found a dark blue Bananna seat. A friend of my stepdad had a garage and he built me a 3 foot tall sissy bar (that I painted silver).
I put many miles on that sucker before I was able to trade up to a new model with 3 speeds.
Yes I remember my first bike too. It was a deep purple and had a banana seat with big 70's looking flowers in lime greens , blues & purple. I was devastated by it. I was such a tomboy and was too embarassed to ride it around for fear of being laughed at. Eventually, however, I did like you Roger, and made some upgrades to it...starting with pulling off those streamers from the handlebars & ditching the basket which mateched the pattern of the banana seat.
**smiling just thinking about it**

I remember those, I also remember not having them for very long before my Mom would confiscate them...LOL
(I help edit the photo for you Mum)
Ahhhhhhh the old clickers. I believe I was backhanded for clicking in the car once. *lmao* I wonder who thought of them **looking at Roger** and why parents would even buy them only to be driven nuts....I do remember getting a clicker or two from a n old mart that I used to walk to when we lived in TN.
My mom must have had a drawer full of stuff she confiscated from me & my sister...LOL
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y10...clickclack.jpg
I think I had more brusies with these darn things than fun...They didn't last long either
OH YEAH...What about those AWESOME
"Click Clacks"
Oh How I loved my purple pair...that and "Lawn Jarts" Not the stupid plastic kind either THE METAL ONES...gee I wonder why they ever took those off the market
Oh Rae is gonna love you for finding that picture. We were just talking about those things last night.
thanks roger for the assist...what kind of clackers are those balls??
They were Click Clacks, if you did it right (which I couldn't), they would click each other and bounce apart, If you were good they would bounce hard enough to click and bounce and clack on the top...
...thats not very plain is it?
YAY....And thats exactly right Rog. I loved mine and I got pretty good at it ( its was all in the wrist)...Now I'm remembering another toy, I think called a gyro??? Anywho, had a metal track and a red wheel that rode inside and out with the flick of a wrist...I could make mine go really fast!
Hmmmmmmmmmmm ball clackers & wrist action...I really could go somewhere with this but I won't...not THIS time.
I know those things Rae. Chloe had one.

I remember Big Wheels!
And then there were those things you get on where there is a plastic seat between two big plastic wheels on either side with a handle on each wheel and you had to turn them simultaneously to make them go forward or backward or you could just turn one side more and go in cirlces.
You know that when my mom and dad were in their late 20s to early 30s that they would take us kids over to their friends' house and everyone had to bring their Big Wheels. All of us kids would haul our big wheels up the block and ride through all the yards until coming to a stop, which was in the driveway of my parents' friends house who lived at the bottom of the hill. At around 7 0r 8 after the parents got a little tanked, they would take over the Big Wheels. I remember one time my dad thought he would take his big Wheel all the way to the top of the hill, which was basically the first yard on the street. He started down and you could here every time the big wheel would go over the driveway and then the grass, the driveway, then the grass (because we rode in the yards not in the street). What my dad failed to realize was that he went beyond the point where we normally start, which was after a big curve. Well he picked up some serious momentum and he could not make that curve and he flew into one of the neighbors mailboxes going about 30 mph on a big wheel with the seat adjuster completely removed. He wiped out so bad. But a couple of weeks later, we were there again and all the kids were begging my dad to "do it again".
We were at Walmart, and I see that they have a viewmaster with disc's from the movie Cars....Hmmm That might get listed on the topic Last Thing I Bought, pretty soon
I remember going shopping with my mother, If we could afford it she would buy everyone a candy bar.
To this day I remember her always asking the clerk for a Baby Ruth for her, A Heath toffee bar for my stepdad, a three Musketeer for my little sister and I always liked snickers.
Once in a while I'll buy a Baby Ruth, and it causes a flood of memories to overwhelm me, just from the aroma and taste.
I love you Mom
rog
That a such a beautiful story!!! I'll never look at a baby ruth the same way again Thanks Rog!!!
Yeah that is sweet. My mom just threatened us and said if we asked for anything she would beat us with a switch.....
**looking at mum**
Nah I am just kidding guys. Mom was good about letting us have a treat every now and then. I loved those Marathon Bras and I remember when the Whatchamacallit bar made its chocolate debut in the 70's while I was living in Alabama.
Talk about a freudian slip. I meant Marathon Bar, not Bra...but whatever...that sounds kinda fun if you really weant to know. A chocolate bra. Hmmmmmmmm
Miz Pez, I'm afraid in this heat you would not get much support....or coverage with a Marathon bra
I remember going to the saturday matinee at our local theather back in the 60's, 50c admission, 25c for a box of sugar babies & 25c for a large soda, Now its about $10. per person to see a movie
